SLS Kenya

Hello Fellow Students!

I’ve been working with Summer Literary Seminars for two years now.  SLS is a one-of-a-kind literary program in which writers from all over North America come together to give workshops, seminars, and lectures. This unique environment allows leaders in the field to interact in ways that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. I’ve been given the opportunity to learn from writers such as Elizabeth Bachinsky, Saskia Hamilton and Rachel Resnick. I have learned more about the real writing world from these workshops and seminars in the two weeks than I could by reading any textbook, magazine or journal.
This December, I’m going to Kenya with SLS where I’ll be working with Gary Shteyngart, Claudia Rankine and Maxine Chernoff. The program takes place from December 7th to the 21st, in both Nairobi and Lamu. We’ll be writing during the day, socializing with faculty at night, and have the opportunity to go on a safari.
Why should you come with us to Kenya? You’ll get 3 credits (that’s an entire class worth of credits) in just two weeks. You’ll get to work with writers you wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to work with at Concordia. You’ll have an excuse to go to Africa!
Please go see Ann Ward in LB 683.3, or email her (ann@sumlitsem.org) if you have any questions or would like to learn more!
Please also take this opportunity to check out our contest, judged by award-winning authors Mary Gaitskill, Tony Hoagland and Ander Monson. Enter today! www.sumlitsem.org/contest.html
Thanks for your time, I hope to see you in Kenya!
